A definition of coaching I like is P = p - i, or Performance equals Potential minus Interference. We may have dreams and desires yet our mind can block the pathway ahead, inhibiting our ability to focus and take action.
So coaching works best when you are committed to wanting to move forward yet are finding it difficult to succeed on your own or motivate yourself.
The areas in which I coach include:
- work-life balance
- career direction and change, including redundancy, returning to work, career breaks
- parenting and relationships
- life transitions
It differs from counselling and psychotherapy as it requires a readiness to change, yet the benefit of working with a psychotherapist as coach is the greater depth of understanding about people, communication and change.
